Beach Clean Up Leads To An
Explosive Find!
Finding strange things on one of the Clean The Beach Boot Camp’s is not something new. Syringes, computer components, nappies, even an entire fridge! But we were not at all prepared for what was in store for us on the 10th of March 2018 at Phukets Beach Clean Up
Daniel Kauffman of Kaufman Creative, and the infamous Phuket expat Steffen Singto, two regular CBBC participants, unearthed something very strange and unexpected, during our latest cleanup. What, at first, seemed like a bit of blue plastic sticking out of the ground, on further digging and pulling, turned out to be something very peculiar.
The blue plastic seemed like a lid of some sort, beneath which were two plastic bottles. One bottle, cut in half, and compactly packed using bolts. The other one had some strange coloured liquid inlay at the bottom, along with metal pieces and a sufficient amount of shattered glass.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”10857″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
Was this improvised shrapnel?
We don’t know for sure.
We did, at first wonder, if this was the influence of all years of the Hollywood conditioning. Soon, other CBBC members came over and gasped as they almost literally stepped on a mine. Our fear of this being some type of explosive gained weight, as someone rightfully pointed out the suspicious coincidence of it being buried, right in the middle of a regular walking path.
“If they wanted to dump this, then why wouldn’t they just throw it two meters to their left into the bushes? Why take the effort to bury it, and why do it in the middle of the path that everyone takes, to get to the beach?“ – Steffen Singto

“… Strange to, because the tide doesn’t come up this far plus it would be to heavy to be carried by the water, someone definitely burred it here, but why?” – Daniel Kaufman
We all decided to take solace in the conclusion that this was probably “not” a bomb, but what do you think it was? We added this piece of possible explosive to the pile of other trash collected at the cleanup. Another item added to the collection of strange and sometimes very harmful things people dump into the environment, another sad reminder of the waste crisis.
Whats your opinion? Failed IED? (Improvised Explosive Device) or just random trash burred in a strange place? Let us know in the comments below![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
